Review of what I will call Casey's Week

(written by Jenn)

One week ago Casey was flown to the University of Utah hospital on life support. I spent the night at the hospital with my Aunt Nean. It was really hard for me to see Casey like that. They had him restrained because he would fight the nurses and crew. I told him that I loved him and that if he didn't get better I would kick his A$$. Matt went home to sleep (he had to work the next day).

We took over a corner of the SICU waiting room. I mean literally took it over. He had pillows and blankets and overnight bags and food. I did my best to keep it clean. We met some really nice people and wish them all the very best of luck!

Emily (Casey's sister) and my mom drove up from Las Vegas Wednesday morning. Casey was still in a medically induced coma, and they were still treating the pneumonia. Although you couldn't quite tell, he was actually progressing. We stayed at the hospital all day.

Casey started to wake up on Thursday afternoon. We were able to talk to him, but all he could do was nod his head and squeeze our hand. He tried his hardest to spell out words. He tore out his feeding tube. They had to restrain him more. We stayed at the hospital all day.

Friday he was able to get his breathing tube out. He started talking. We stayed at the hospital all day. We brought card games to play with.

Saturday, my brother Steve flew in. Ali (Casey's sister) and her family drove up from Las Vegas. He was able to be transferred to the CVMU. They allowed all of us to be in his room with him. He could walk, but was very unsteady. We stayed at the hospital all day. By this time all of our meals had been from the hospital cafeteria, but for a cafeteria, it does taste pretty good.

Sunday, he was discharged home.

Thank you for your prayers. I know they were heard and answered.

We are all tired, still a little stressed, but are just grateful we still have Casey.

I couldn't take any pictures while Casey was in the SICU. Here are his pictures once he was off all his machines.
